Here are some ideas that (I'm hoping) will help my allergies. Soon to be followed up with how well they actually worked:
1. Ginger - To help with congestion
2. Eyebright
3. Nettle
4. Local Honey - contains local pollen, taking the homeopathic/slow immunization route
5. Delivery of any supplement as a hot tea, not for the liquid, but for the breathing in the steam
6. Proteins - I suspect that I originally started getting bad allergic reactions because of stress and depression. Since I don't eat meat, several people have suggested that I don't get enough protein, and protein has a big effect on mental health in general. It's a long-shot for allergies, but I should be getting more protein anyway. Ideas: Kale, Kelp (seaweed).
7. Bacterias (as may be found in fermented things) - What an Allergic Reaction IS, is an overreaction of the immune system. Never trust any allergy medicine that says it'll "Boost your Immune System" because, on the off chance that it actually does, that's really not what you want. One of the more prevalent theories for why people get seasonal allergies is that the immune system expects to be exposed to a certain level of harmful pathogens. If it doesn't find enough of these, it starts attacking harmless foreign particles, like pollen, dust, dander, or in my case all of the above and just about anything else particulate. This theory fits very well with the fact that I'm currently surrounded by people with strep and flu and haven't even felt a twinge of either. The idea behind eating things containing bacteria is that maybe there will be something in it that my immune system can attack instead. Ideas: Miso (which is also rich in protein), Kombucha, Yogurt and Cheese (though less so, since dairy promotes mucus, which causes congestion).
8. Bananas, Potatoes and Lentils - These are both rich in the Vitamin B's (vitamin b complex), which has been suggested to me by various people.
9. Spicy Foods - I'm allergic to chile, so I never really got used to spicy foods. But, they do clear the sinuses nicely.
10. Camphor - Lavender has always been more of a comfort thing than anything else. It relaxes me, and helps me not freak out when my throat is suddenly closing. But its physiological use (among other things) is as a relaxant, usually used on the throat and nose. That's because it has Camphor. Camphor is also used in things like Vic's Vapo Rub. It does something for my chemical allergies, maybe it'll do something for my seasonal allergies.
11. Keep Cool - Maybe my system will expend enough energy on keeping warm that it'll give up fighting harmless particles as a bad job? Yeah right. But it's worse when I'm hot and miserable, so it's a good idea anyway.
